    hi all,
    I am a doctor presently working in KMC, Manipal. I am have written my USMLE and am going for interviews in Nov and Dec as i am applying for next yr residency prog which will start in July 2007.

    In the mean time i have got a offer to Work in Doha, Qatar as primary care specialist in Hamad Medical Coporation which is a Govt based Job in Qatar and monthly salary they offfer is very good. I thought i can work and save in Qatar for 6 months before i can join my residency in US.

    I am willing to continue with my USMLE prog and i will be sponsored my the US hospital either H1B or ECFMG will sponsor will J1 visa.

    I need to know if me taking up a job in Qatar for 6 months will anyway effect my Hib or J1 visa being rejected. As far as i can think, i think if i apply for H1b then, VO can reject my application saying that i am potential immigrant.
    But if i take a J1, then i will have to come back to India as thats the visa rule in J1.

    I dont mind doing my residency in US in whichever visa i get....but i want to apply correctly so that they cant deny me one....

    pls give ur inputs in this regards

    with regards

    hello again

    A valuable piece of info;
    H1b is a dual intent visa, which means you do not have to show a non-immigrant intent to get it. You do not have to show that you will return to your home country. Only one more non-immigrant visa enjoys this dual intent; L1 visa.
    All other non-immigrant visas , including J-1 require you to show that you
    will return to home country. Though J-1 has a 2 yr homecountry requirement
    for reentry to US after it ends, when being interviewed for it, you will have to show ties and future plans in India.

    All said, I do not think working in Doha, anyway will affect your visa decision for residency. If you have an H-1 approval, you do not need to worry at all
    anyway. If you are going for a J-1, just be prepared to show them good future plans in India after you complete your residency in US.
