My sister-in-law aged 35 just arrived today. She got a 10-year visa in India. But at the port of entry, the officer gave her a hard time and he was suspicious that she's here to stay. We were hoping she would get a 6mo stay permit, but he gave her only for 2months & he warned her *not to try for extension or else her visa gets cancelled*. I'm wondering if he has the authority to warn like that? would he have made some remarks in the database in this regard. Shouldn't everybody have a right to "request" for extension (it'll be up to them whether to grant or not)? how can just applying for extension automatically "cancel" her visa? Did the officer go too overboard in implementing his authority?
Mainly, pl. suggest if we can still try and ask for extension upto 6months without risking future ordeals... Also share if anybody had such similar experiences before..
Thanks
