  • Alternative document for Birth Certificate

    Hi
I am on H1B and I am planning to bring my parents to US on tourist visa. I have a few queries..

    1. I was born in a village in Gujarat but grew-up and settled down in Chennai. My birth was never registered and I dont have anybody in that village now. Pls advise on what alternative documents can be given instead of birth certificate. I dont think the govt of Tamil nadu can/will give a letter stating that my birth records could not be found(since I was born in Gujarat).

    2. My parents did not register their marriage. I believe a self affidavit from my parents on their marriage notarized by a notary should be good enough. Pls confirm.

    3. Is it necessary to have a formal valuation letter of my father's property ? If so, from who ?

Thanks in advance for your time and advise.

Birth certificates and marriage certificates may be mandatory for an immigrant visa, but not for a visitor visa. They may be asked for by some officers, but should not be the basis of a denial for a visitor visa.
1.Everyone has a school leaving certificate with his/her dad's name on it.
    Provide a copy of that.
2.They hardly ask for a marriage certificate. But just to be on the safe side,
they can carry evidence of life together, like a joint savings account/deposits, a life insurance policy , joint property etc.
    An affidavit will also do.
3.I guess a CA's assessment of the property's market value will do. The CA can include this in his list of all assests and deposits, your parents have.

      Transalation of Birth certificate

Hi, I managed to trace my birth certificate. It is in Gujarathi and does not contain my name.(I am currently on H1B and planning to bring my parents for a visit to US on Tourist Visa.)

      1. What is the process for transalation of birth certificate ? Can it be anybody fluent in English & Gujarathi.. Or should it be some professional transalators ?

      2. Should that transalated letter by notarized ?

      3. Can the transalation be on a simple A4 while paper or any legal document ?

      4. My birth certificate does not have my name. Therefore is it OK if I supplement this with my School TC or 12th marksheet that has my Date of Birth and my name.

      Thanks in Advance.

Anybody competent to translate can do it. Even you can do it. Write a statement below that
you are competent to translate from Gujrati to English and sign it.
No notarization required. Ordinary A4 is fine. Yes, attach a copy of your school cert. with it.
Main thing is one of your parents name should be on one of the certificates.
