My parents visitor visa was approved by the CHennai embassy on Dec 18, 06
They had a long interview (40 mins) but the visa was granted in the end.
Since i am their only daughter who is employed in the US and here with my husband, they asked questions to ensure that my parents will return to India.
They talked abt all their relatives and having to take care of my grandmother since my dad retired from govt service 3 years ago.
I had forgotten to send them copies of my W2. The embassy officer wasn;t too happy abt that.
So folks, please make sure you send copies of ur W2/tax return etc without fail.
They were asked to show documents relating to their net worth in India (house valuation, bank statements etc).
They were also asked detailed questions abt mine & my husband's employment.
Also, the invitation letter i sent was for 3 months only and my parents had a printout of a blocked (ticket) itinerary for the 3 month period.
In the end , i think the best policy is to be truthful and to have documents to back up anything you say.
I was very worried that the embassy would reject them as i am the only child and my dad is retired. However, they answered all the questions truthfully and were granted the visa.
Apparently some other couple lied abt having another child in India and they were asked for that child's phone number and since they couldn;t supply one, they were rejected on the spot.
