I-94 Extend : Urgent

My MIL reached US on 12/23/2006 and at Immeg'on check officers didn't asked any questions to her and stamped her I-94 for return date of 01/22/2007.

she has return ticket of 05/26/2007.

I want to extend dates on I-94 from 01/22 to 05/26.

Does any one had came across this case. Any valuable information will be appreciated.

Looks like a case of oversight by the officer; he granted only a month's stay.
You can apply for an extension by filing form I-539 . But remember, the response takes many months and will come after her I94 expiry. If it is an approval, no problems but if it is a denial, she will have to leave US immediately. There are no guarantees of success to extension application and if you can afford one, take the help of a GOOD immigration attorney.

Keep copies of her I94 for future reference.

NO. Extension can be applied for many of several classes of non-immigrant visas eg., H-1, J-1 etc. And there is no 6 month limit. You can apply for an extension even if your stay is one month. In your case, you must include a statement explaining why your mom needs extension.
