  • Bank Statement

    Hi,

I have been here in USA from Sep 2005. I`m planning to bring my mom here. How much amount i should keep in my bank account? Also is there any requirement that i should have been here for a minimum of 6 months?

    Thanks in Advance.

What do you mean how much amount you should keep in bank account?

What you have in bank account is what you have. You can't be borrowing money from others to keep in your account temporarily.

      Bank Statement

What i was trying to ask is, in immihelp its mentioned that $5000 should be good enough for taking care of the tourist.

Its also mentioned that 6 months bank statement should be provided. But its not been 6 months since i`m here.

      Pls. reply.

        1. That is just the estimated amount.

        2. That is general advice. If you have been in US for less than 6 months, provide whatever bank statements you have.

I know this has been said about 4789 times, but, the bank accounts of a sponsor do not mean anything when another person is applying for a tourist visa....it is the qualifications of the applicant that matter, not the dollars in some random bank account of a relative or friend. Money matters only with student visa applicants and immigrant visa applicants.
This preoccupation with bank accounts just muddies the waters....the VOs are not going to analyze one's account to see if one can take one's mother out to dinner or to the movies.

That's right. But if the person is sponsoring their parents, they need to have the approximate amount of money in the bank that would take care of the expenses while the visitors are in US.

If you have $200 in your account, how can you sponsor your parents?

Of course, even if you have $100,000 in your account, your parents may be rejected visa if there are other problems.

Therefore, sponsor should have at least some realistic amount of money.

no matter how much money one may have in their account, that fact will not (a) prevent another relative from working illegally in the US or (b) force that relative to return to their country when they are supposed to or (c) qualify an otherwise unqualified applicant for a visa
