  • Do I need to send H4 approval - for visitor visa stamping for in-laws?

We applied for a H4 extension for my wife in July 06, but no receipt number yet. Got my H1B extension visa approved in September 06 which was applied at the same time.

Is my I-797 (H1B approval notice) sufficient Or My wifes H4 approval notice is mandatory for a visitor visa stamping for my in-laws in India? Please advise.

    Thanks

    madhu,

I am currently on H1 and my husband is also on H1. Three years back when I was on H4 we applied for my inlaws. Then we dint send my h4 papers. recently we applied for my parents, then first time they were rejected visa as my status has changed to H1 and also my H1 was not stamped on my passport at that time, and we dint send my h1 approval papers. But the second time when my parents went for the interview, we had send my h1 papers and also it was stamped on my passport as well. Then visa was granted for my parents.

In ur case, since ur wife's H4 would be there on her passport, that should be fine and also if the VO asks about her H4 expiration, her parents can say she has applied for extension. For which u can send them the receipt, Which i think should be enough.

Note: My husband was the one sponsering for both his and my parents.

If anybody else thinks what i suggested is not enough please do say so.

    All the Best.

      Thanks Nitu for your reply.

I don't have a recipt notice sent by INS, But I have a LIN number given by INS when I called them yesterday. They said my wife's H4 has been approved and when they attempted to mail me, mail was returned back to them. INS people said, they will mail me again. But it may take 4 to 6 weeks to reach me.

My in-laws have an appointment on 25th of Jan. Now my concern is, would it be ok if I my in-laws tell LIN number or show the copy of case status info from INS website to VO when they asked for my wife's approval notice?

      Thanks
      Madhu

I have a question, how can u get the case status from INS website without a receipt number. I thought one can get case status only by entering application receipt number. Correct me if i am wrong.
