Hi,
My in-laws have interview on 1/16th and they did not sent the I-156, I-157, photocopy of passport, appointment letter and ORIGINAL HDFC Receipt to US Visa application center.
I searched the forum, did not found any info. that such documents need to be sent. Attached is the document (converted from pdf to text) that I saved when I took online appointment for my in-laws that explains such needs. If you cannot see the attachement, here is the text writeup.

IMPORTANT: -
1. Kindly affix the below label on a cloth lined envelope. Please ensure all documents are
enclosed as per the checklist below.
2. Only ONE application per envelope. If you have scheduled your appointment in a group or
family, please forward multiple envelopes-1 per application.
3. You can drop in your application at any of the Western India application centres between
0800 hrs and 1500 hrs or Courier it to us at the below mentioned address.
4. Kindly ensure that your envelope reaches at a US Visa Application Centre in Ahmedabad,
Pune or Mumbai latest by minimum of 5 working days prior to your scheduled interview
date. It is recommended that you forward your documents to us as soon as you schedule
your Interview.
5. Please be forewarned that an inability to turn in the application by stipulated deadline wouldresult in cancellation of the appointment.
Please confirm that following documents have been attached by ticking the check box alongside: -
Visa class:
1. DS-156 in original signed and with photo affixed. ..
2. DS-157 in original. ..
3. Photocopy of passport data pages (1st and last page). ..
4. Photocopy of the passport pages bearing “Observation” or “Remarks”. ..
5. Photocopy of Interview appointment letter. ..
6. Original HDFC fee receipts (Yellow copy). ..
(Signature of the applicant as per passport)
