First of all Thanks for this site and folks who contribute here.
My Parents got the visa last night (Tuesday 12:30 PM) at Chennai. They reached the counter for Interview at 2:30 PM so there was delay in fingerprinting and overall they told that lot of folks.
They took English Interview and they are average in communicating in English as they hardly ever needed to do it.
Here is the Interview total time spent at the counter was 3 minutes or so.
1. Parents: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning (Smiling, Young American Person)
2. VO: How long you plan to stay at USA
Father: 2 months
3. VO: Only 2 months, When are you planning to Travel?
Mother: (My mom seems to understand the VO well eventhough she was little nervous if they will ask her something) April first week
4. When are you coming back?
Father: May end, Oh no, may be June first week depending on how we get Ticket.
5. VO:Is your Son married?
Mother: Yes
6. VO: Can I see his papers?
Father: Hands him over the set I had send them with labeled sections for Immigration, letter, Financial docs, Spends 1 minute to make a quick look.
7. VO: Hands it back to them and said your Visa is approved smilingly and said Bye.
Parents: Thank You and Bye.
Comments: Never looked any of my Parents Financial/Family Tie Papers, I had instructed them to only hand over Mandatory Papers(Passport, Appoinment Letter, DS 156, HDFC reciept and Affidatvit of Support) to VO and only give them papers if they ask. I also asked them to take all originals to Embassy but keep totally seperate and only plan to take it out if they ask. Also asked them to keep the second set of copies for Mother seperately and only give if they ask. This way carry and have handily available important papers and not to deal with stacks of paper. I did send them original Birth Certificate and they only gave them the copy of BC which was part of Sponser set of copies.
They stayed in Nirmala Dakshin Hotel which I called from USA and made reservation, Hotel is OK, Too much mosquito trouble, Charges Rs. 1000(told me Rs. 875 over the phone, never bothered about Rs. 125 extra) for double bed non A/C and Rs. 600 for single non A/C, They have free decent breakfast buffet. 2 kms from Embassy and 3 kms from Central Station.
Hope above details will help others.
