H1 extension is in process

HI,

My h1/I94 expried during November. My company has filed for the extension during November itself and couple of weeks back I have got the receipt for the H1 extension.

Can I sponsor visitor visa for my parents with out the latest petition? Is it enough if I send the origianl H1 petition and the receipt for the extnesion as proof of my legal status in US?
