How to get US tourist visa from UK?

Hi,

A friend of mine is now in the UK on a valid work permit for two years (till 2008). He is an Indian citizen, and wants to visit us in the US for a couple of weeks.

I would like to know if it is possible for him to get a US tourist visa (B2) from UK, and I would not mind sponsoring him (I am on H1).

If he could get a visa from the UK, then what would the steps for applying / obtaining an US visa? What are the documents required, and how long would it take to get a visa? Would appreciate if some one could post replies based on their personal experiences.

The decision will depend on how much the officer will be convinced that
he will return to UK after the trip. Since he came to work in UK , in officer's view he could also look for work in US and not come back.

A strong letter from his employer in UK showing his job duties, stressing
his importance to the company , grant of leave for the trip , salary given
will be very valuable at the time of interview.

Also, it will be favorable for him to ask for a short stay of few weeks.
ALso, it is strongly advised he spends his own money for the trip and you should not send any affidavit of support. Just write an invitation letter for him.
