Box # 37, where you are asked to check yes or no for family members in the US and give their status (ie, citizen, GC, etc)..I forgot to check yes for daughter and put H-1..parents already submitted forms...can this be rectified at the interview?

When you and your parents signed on the application you basically accepted the information put in there.

Now there are people who have made corrections in the application by hand before they handed it to the Application Center.

But, I guess if your parents have already submitted the form to the Visa Application Center then there is nothing that can be done except to wait until their interview, try to clarify the mistake with the Visa Officer and hope she/he will not mind.

On the day of the interview, the application will be returned to your parents at the consulate, before they meet the Visa Officer.

But since the application has already been seen/carefully studied by the staff of the Application Center and Consulate, please tell your parents NOT to take the risk of making any changes by hand at that time but to just politely inform the Visa Officer of the mistake. Hopefully she/he will let it pass.

correction in DS 156

Manual corrections are allowed... don't worry everything would be fine...

While compleating DS 156 online I committed a mistake with regard to Surname.When I presented the print out with manual correction the embassy official accepted it and made a note of the same in their system.

rakhu and Raj 123: Your solution is useful for all consulates except Mumbai.

With regard to the Mumbai consulate, the applicants have to submit their application to the Visa Application Centers in Ahmedabad/Pune/Mumbai 5 working days before their interview.

In this case the parents have already submitted applications with a mistake to the Visa Application Center already.

Now, the Application Center then checks the applications and directly passes it on to the Mumbai Consulate. We have to assume that the Consulate staff have also examined the application. The application is briefly returned to the applicants in a folder on the day of the interview and you are clearly told not to tamper with it.

That is the reason I mention that in case of the Mumbai consulate the applicants should not tamper with the forms at the last minute but simply explain the situation to the Visa Officer.
