Air tickets -- open or dated ?

I was looking for info on whether the B2 visa return-ticket to India should be dated or can it be an open ticket. While the open ticket allows flexibility with the return date, which depends on the date stamped at the POE, will it adversely impact the duration of stay stamped at the POE. Also, are there any other advantages to holding a dated ticket.
Appreciate your opinions/personal experiences.

Better have it dated. They do not always look at the return ticket
but if they do , a dated return ticket will show an intent to return.
But choose the return date wisely. Some difficult officers will stamp the I94
till the return date on your ticket.
