  • Documents for self-sponsored visit

    My father will be visiting us for 3-4 months during this summer. He is self-sponsoring the trip. Are there any specific documents for the self sponsored visitors? And are there documents which we need not send or specially send for this situation?

    Also, during the visa interview does he need to mention the self-sponsoring aspect? Will that increase the chances of getting tourist visa?

    Please help me with your valuable inputs. Thanks...

    If he is self-sponsoring you need NOT send an affidavit of support(form I-134)
    and supporting financial staements.
    OTher documents you need to send remain the same;
    invitation letter stating your job and visa status in US and that you are inviting your dad for ----- period. copies of your birth cert with your dad's name on it, passport, visa.

    There is a question on the form DS 156 which asks who will pay for the trip.
    the answer will be SELF. In addition to that he will be asked who is paying for the trip and the answer will be MYSELF.

    Self -sponsoring does increase the chances but he should make sure
    he has very good income/money to show self-sponsoring. ANd he will have to take all evidence of his income/
    finances.(tax returns, CA letter of net worth, deposits, property docs)
