My parents are going for Visa next week.We want to know if it is OKay to mention to the consulate officer that we would be interested in 10yr visa. Our parents may not be able to travel now.We want to get the 10yr visa so that my parents can come anytime they want. But will it affect our chances of getting the visa,if we try to ask for 10 year visa.

The visa applicants are only expected to answer the questions that the VO asks. They are not expected to give suggestions, make requests or ask questions to the VO.
The applicants can only try to ensure that their case is strong and that they are more than adequately able to prove their strong social and economic ties to India which would emphasize their intention to return. If the VO is convinced of that the applicants will be granted a 10 year visa. If the VO remains unconvinced the applicants may either be rejected or granted a visa for a shorter term (1 year/6 months/3 months/6 weeks).
If you think that your parents' case is not convincing enough and if they cannot make it to the U.S. in the next few months (if they are only granted a 6 months visa) then I would suggest that you cancel the interview and take an appointment closer to the time that they will be able to travel.Last edited by smohanty; 03-23-2007, 06:37 PM.
