  • Bank Account Details - Urgent please help

    Hello:
I wanted to invite my mother and sister to US to travel for a month. My mother teaches in a school while my sister is a CA in a MNC. My dad passed away 3 years ago. It is important for me to bring both of them together since my mother refuses to travel leaving my sister alone in India. However, I have seen that mostly travel visas get rejected for younger people. My sister has no intention of settling in the states since she is very happy with the job she has in india. Is there a way I could convince the visa authorities of this?

Also, I have been a student for the last 4 years and have just started earning. Plus I had a lot of debt in credit cards - money that I had borrowed during my dad's illness - that I just finished repaying. So my bank account balance is not very high - on the avarage of 3000 dollars. My husband's account has similar balance. Should we show both account details? In addition my sister earns well and she would contribute too. Would such low balance create a problem - or is there a way we could convince the authorities that this is a short visit and it would be ok?

    Thank u for your help

The trouble with both of them coming together is they will not have strong and convincing social ties to India that they can show which will prove their intention to return. In this case, a spouse or children would count as the most convincing social ties. Your sister has a well-paying job to show for her economic ties to India. However, if she is travelling with your mum then the convincing social ties they have is to the US (i.e. to you) not to India.

Again, if she is between 20-30 years of age VOs see a strong possibility that she will find a life partner while she is in the US and settle down here. And then so would your mother, to be near her children.

As for the money, it is less complicated on paper and to explain to the VO if there is just one sponsor - either you or your husband or your sister. In case of you and your husband, you can add each other's names to your individual bank accounts. So each of you is in a position to show maximum amount of money.

If you are sponsoring them then it would certainly help for you to show around $10000 in your account i.e. around $5000 per person. And even if you had that amount the problem of your family's social ties to India would remain.

You can certainly try your luck with an amount lesser than that or without the social ties but in your place I wouldn't want my family members to risk unnecessary rejection which will then make things more difficult for them the next time they try.

So my suggestion would be for you and your sister to persuade your mother to travel by herself (in which case she can show her ties to India in the form of an unmarried daughter in India).

      Sponsor amount

thank you for the previous reply. I have another question. I have about $5000 in my bank account - enough for my mother, but not for my sister. However, my sister earns > 6 lakh per annum and can sponsor herself. However, its said that 2 people with different sponsorships should not do interview together. So will it work if my mother schedules an interview and I send her the sponsorship documents and later my sister goes for her interview as a self sponsored?
