  • Where is the sibling info asked?

    Dear all,

It is suggested that if the invitee (the one who invites and who is directly related to the visitors) has siblings in the US, it is advisable to mention that. The sponsor may or may not be the invitee (for instance if inviting spouse's parents).

Where on DS156 do we mention that a sibling (of the invitee) is also in the US? There is one question in DS156 that goes "Are any of the following persons in the US? or do they have US legal permanent residence or US citizenship?". But you would fill in information regarding the invitee's relationship with the visitors and the invitee's status, is it not? Where then can it be mentioned that a sibling of the invitee is also in the US?

For example, if there are two daughters of the visitors in the US, how does one mention both when only one can be entered. You would mention the daughter who is inviting you first, isnt it?

Kindly let me know. awaiting your replies..

    Thanks once again.

Ok, so if you're sponsoring/inviting your wife's parents and you yourself have a sibling in the U.S. that information does not need to be mentioned in the DS-156. After all, your sibling is not an immediate relation of your wife's parents.

However, if your wife has a sibling the U.S. then that definitely has to be mentioned in Q.37 where it says "Are any of the following in the US - son/daughter/both". In the blank space next to that question you need to mention the legal status of both your wife and her sibling.

        Hi Mohanty,

Thanks for your reply. Yes. I am sponsoring my inlaws and my wife has a sister in the US. My wife is a permanent resident and her sister is on H4. So would you say Perm resident, H4 in the blank space?

        Thanks again for your reply.

Sounds all right! But I guess you could clarify that by writing:

1.) Permanent Resident/Green Card (depending on space limitations)
          2.) H4

Thanks again. Will do based on space limitations.
