  • Should parents tell about both kids living in US ??

    Hi,

    I am sponsoring my parents to come visit US. My sister is married and she also lives in US.

    If the consulate officer asks the question "Where does your daughter live?", would it be alright for my parents to say that she also lives in US or would it be a safer answer to say that she lives in India ?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Let me be very frank. Both the children in US will decrease the chances.
    But I do not recommend lying. They may have to tell more lies if the officer starts probing about your sister and it is possible their lie is caught right during the interview. That will mean certain denial. Also, lying can create problems in the long run.

    Other than answering verbally, they are supposed to declare on form DS 156
    too which blood relatives are in US and on what visas.

    In such a case the following tips may help
    * only mother applies.
    * she self-finances if they have good income.
    * she shows that she and/or her husband has strong occupational ties to India.(job/business).

      Never lie, always tell the facts

      Hi,
      My parents went to Chennai on April26th for tourist visa. Me and my brother both live in USA. They mentioned the same in DS-156. VO asked where the children are staying and my parents told the city names. Their visa is approved, but we dont know the duration yet.
      I think if all children are in US, it doesnt imply that visa will be rejected.
      Good luck!!!
