    You were misguided. You cannot work on a visitor visa. If you are caught working on a visitor visa, you can be deported and will have major problems.

    To advise you , I need more info about you;

    * Your education.
    * Work experience.
    * Married or single?
    * Age
    *What are you doing in India now and how much are you earning?

            You need to look for a job on the net where they can sponsor you for a work visa (H-1b). It may not be easy because H-1 visas are in very limited supply
            and are used up fast.

            Getting a visitor visa for you will be very difficult because you have a low paying govt. job. If you have relatives in US, it could be possible.

            Other options are;
            *Go to US on a student visa. Apply for a masters or a short vocational study
            course in US, hunt for scholarships. If you can get a scholarship it may be possible.

            *Apply for immigration to canada, it is open and you may qualify .
            It will be easier to go to US from canada.

              I would sincerely recommend that you hold on to your job in India.

              There are enough number of qualified US citizens to do the kind of job you are looking for. So you don't stand any chance of getting the kind of job you are looking for.

              Non-US citizens only get jobs that US citizens don't want (example, farm labor) or are not qualified enough for (high end professional jobs).

              Any organization that you apply for a job will demand to know your legal status in the US. And since visitors are not legally permitted to seek employment your job application will not be taken seriously.

              If you are really keen on getting to the US, you could get an MCom or MBA (from a prestigious university/institution) from India and then apply for further studies in the US. But do keep in mind that doing that will be a very expensive prospect.

              Finally, as Peace mentioned, you could try for Canadian immigration but please keep in mind that there are some qualifying requirements for Canada also. People with masters degrees stand a better chance of qualifying for Canadian immigration as compared to those with bachelors degrees. In fact, it is said that Canada has the largest number of cab/taxi drivers with PhDs.

              So again, if you have a decent-paying, stable job in India don't throw it away.
              If your dream to work abroad does not work out you will be left with nothing.
