  • Sponsoring Sister / Brother in Law

    Hi,

I am US Citizen and my sister (live in India - Delhi) who is married with two kids wants to visit us during summer holidays. My Brother-in-law is very well settled and rich. He will be paying for family's entire trip expenses.

Question is do i need to send sponsorship to my sister for tourist visa or not?

Should my sister disclose that her brother lives in US? Does this decrease her chances of visa approval?

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Sandy

Sponsorship means sending an Affidavit of support( I-134).
If they are financing their own trip, there is no need to send that.
All you need to send is an invitation letter(address it to the cosular, US embassy/consulate, requesting the grant of a visitor visa to your sister for
a visit of 2-3 months to visit you in US, She is settled in India at---with her husband working as-----).A copy of your passport and your birth certificate
showing your parents' names may be asked for by some visa officers. THis is to establish that you are actually her brother. She should carry her bc too , just in case it is asked for.

LET HER NOT LIE ABOUT YOUR PRESENCE IN US.
This constitutes misrepresentation with possible harsh long term immigration consequences for her if she ever wants to apply another kind of visa for herself or for her children.
You are a USC , so they can easily find out.
