Advice Needed with DS-156 (Typo Error)

I have filled up DS-156 (with online appointment) for my parents, but unfortunately the DOB of my father has been mis-typed. Now the system does not allow me to correct the same. When contacted the VFS-USA helpdesk, they suggest that we inform the consulate officer and
hand-correct the printed version in their presence. Is this ok? or the other alternative is to cancel the appointment and re-do everything.

Your kind advice would be greatly appreciated.
