Question reg Occupation (DS-156)

I have a question regarding DS-156, 'Occupation' field. My father is 60 years old, he had taken an early (voluntary) retirement about 7-8 years ago. He currently takes care of this properties (couple of houses and lands that he owns). Can be write occupation something like 'managing self-owned real estate?' or 'real estate owner' Is that valid? Or do we need to write as 'retired'?
My parents have only 2 children and both of us are in US. I was wondering if writing retired will depict no-strong ties to India.

Please advice?

if u mention anything to do with real estate he will have to back that up with papers supporting that.
