  • Name Mismatch

    Hi

I am trying to invite my parents to the United States for a visit(touring the US).

The following is the issue i have:

My husband is sponsoring thier visit. We are required to send our marriage certificate, my birth certificate and my passport copy as documents.
My father's name is spelt in one way in all these documents of mine and in his passport it is spelt differently. His degree certificate, his bank accounts have the same spelling as his passport while his house title has the spelling as in my passport and my marriage certificate.

My question is: Is this going to be a problem when we apply for a visitor visa for my parents?
If so, what should we do about it?
What documents should he prepare and bring along with him to the consulate for the interview in order to prove that both names refer to one and the same person?
Is there a pre-existing set of requisite documents he needs to bring along with him to prove both names refer to only him?

    Thank you in advance

    Do 2 things:

    1. Make an affidavit indicating that 2 names are for same person.
    2. In the visa form, write name as per the passport. And in the other names used column, write that other name.

I am also in the same situation, my Dad's name is spelt differently ("Murty") in his passport. In my Mom's, and mine it's spelt as " **** **".
As I've already taken the appointment, I am unable to edit the DS-156 forms.(I've filled the forms online)

      1) Should I be writing with a Pen after taking printouts? Will it be valid?
      2) {OR} Is it sufficient to get an Affidavit stating that the two names indicate the same person.
      a) Do we have any existing format for this kind of Affidavit? Could you please share?
      b) Who needs to sign this affidavit? Can a Charted Accountant sign?

      Please advice.

You just go to any civil court and talk to people around there. Any lawyer will make that one for you. They have the format.

          Name mismatch

I have the same situation here. My parents' interview is in June 3rd week, as i have already taken appointment, i have filled in DS156. My mothers last name is different in my passport compared to her passport and i have sent my birth certificate copy, where in my mother's name is as in my passport. Whereas in DS156 form i have filled in her name as per her pasport.

But i missed to mention my mother's name which is as in my passport in the 'Other First and Middle names used' column in DS156 and fillled in as NA. Please let me know what can i do now? I have already cancelled and rebooked my appointment once. Can i now make only an affidavit mentioning that both names are same for my mother. Please advice

          Thanks

Just take the affidavit to interview.

              Same

              Hi Padmini

I have the same situation as you, my mothers name is alike in her and my father's passport, whereas it is different in my passport and hence my birth certificate. Please let me know as to what you would do. I would also try to make an affidavit as suggested. Hope only this would be sufficient. Please share any of your experience too and update me on any further info you get to know. I would do the same. Please find my email id, incase you want to write to me direct. bhaavana@hotmail.com.

              Thanks

                Guys,

I am in the same situation too My father has a different name in his passport according to his birth & study certificates whereas his bank accounts, CA related docs ... has a different name (the name which I have in my passport) & he already got a visa fee receipt with the name in his passport. Will an affidavit do in this case? or I am trying to get his name changed in his birth & study certificates & apply for a name change in his passport.....But in this case I think the consulate people won't consider the visa fee receipt which he got with his passport name. I am totally confused....Plz guide me with a proper solution. Anybody who got their parent's visitor visa under the same situation , plz reply back.

Thanks a lot for your help..
