  • What kind of ticket I risk if I use my international drivers licence after 90 days

    Hi

I'am European tourist, If I decide to stay in the US longer than my allowed time of 90 days, and the police stop me in the trafic driving a car and notice that my international drivers licence is valid until 2009, but my allowed time to visit United States is over, what kind of fine or sanction I will risk ?

    Thanks for your help.

You will be detained and deported. And depending on how long you overstayed, either a 3-year or a 10-year ban of entering the US.

      Hi Mickey

      Thanks again for your information.

Yes I know that if the immigration officers stop me I will be detained and deported, but what would happen if I get stop only by the traffic police officer ?

If you get stopped by a police officer (say:speeding, run a red light, etc) you will asked for title/registration, driver's license, proof of insurance.

You probably won't have insurance, and your EU driver's license. Lacking insurance is bad - if he asks for another form of ID, you would then need to produce your passport - with consequences you might imagine.

Say you tell the police officer you have just arrived, or arrived a couple weeks ago - in any case, you will get a ticket - which you would need to pay - because you can't go in front of a judge to argue about it, right ?

And if you get a parking ticket, issued by a traffic cop, you would also need to pay it.

In any case, you're playing a dangerous game . . . Specially with the current increased alertness due to possible terrorist attacks. If the cop that stops you doesn't buy your story, you might end having more problems than just being deported.

          Thanks Mickey

There's no insurance companies in America which accept to cover a foreign tourist if he buy a car to spend his holidays in the united States?
I saw in a forum about few cases of Italians and French covered by Geico during their holidays in USA.
My goal is visiting the United State at least for 6 month and to get rib of my terrible French accent.
I know that is not totally regular, but in the other hand I know that my behavior will not harm anybody just by bank account.
If I have to pay a ticket or to be deported, I will accept my punishment, my passion for the United State is simply out of control, I guess Hollywood and the American dream formatted my soul my mind and my dreams.
