Help:Un-used visa and re-apply for Visitor's visa Qn

Hello,

My parents are planning to go for interview at the end of this month. If they get 6 months valid visa and don't travel from India by the visa expiry date and when they apply for visa again next year, could there be any problems for visa approval next time?

Will there be a question that first time visa was not used and what is the reason for visa again?

what could be the best idea?
1. Go for interview now and see if they can get visa for 10 years or
2. Go for interview later when they are definite that they would travel.

Would appreciate your suggestions and experiences.
