  • visitor visa validity dates

My parents visited us about 2 years ago and returned back by the time their I-94 expired. Next attempt for visa was rejected and was told that they overstayed (visa was for 6 mo.s).
They reached here after 2 mo.s their visa was approved. I-94 was valid for 6 mo.s after they landed here and they reached India before I-94 expired. Embassy have told my father that all they care about is the visa expiration date and not I-94 expiration date.
Has anyone experienced this before? Was our interpretation of "6 mo.s validity" wrong?

    Something's wrong here

Something's terribly wrong here. 6 month validity of the visa means that you need to travel within the 6 month period.

Then the immigration officer at the port of entry stamps the allowable time period on the passport.

If your parents did leave within the allowable time period, you should be okay.

Write to the Consul General of your local AMCON (American Consulate),

Another approach is to contact your local senator's office.

Fax them the details and then mail them the copies of ALL the documentation that proves your parents returned within the time frame.

    Good luck.

Honestly, this is crazy, something's wrong or maybe you've made a mistake somewhere.
