  • My Mother was issued toursit visa on her second attempt--Reason stated was pregnancy.

    Hi All,

I am glad to share this very good news among all immihelp members, that my mother was issued a visitor visa on her second attempt at Chennai consulate. Here is the long success story behind it. Hopefully it helps and not just get bored reading the long story.

I applied for her for the first time on july 9th 2007 and unfortunately visa was rejected by issuing 214(b). The questions that were asked were as below:

    VO: How many children?
    Mom: two daughters.
    VO: Where are they?
Mom: Elder one is in the US(me) and younger one here in Bangalore, India.
Vo: How old is your younger daughter?
    Mom:22
VO: What is your source of income?(as my father is no more)
Mom: YYYY amount (which includes pension, house rent), my mother tried to show CA statement which listed all our properties and VO said that is not necessary.
    VO: Who is ur sponsor?
    Mom: Son-in law
Vo: ON what visa is he and can I see his papers?
Mom: H1b and she handed over the papers to him.
Vo: Sorry, visa cannot be issued.

We really could predict the reason, only reason we thought was she could not convince him enough about strong family tie up in India. As I was expecting and due in October, we were very devastated that she will not be here. So, we gathered up all courage and made up our minds to reason it out in second attempt as pregnancy besides many suggestions not to state it.

On Aug 27 she had her second interview and we asked her to be more elaborate on the answers this time: here are the questions:

    Vo: How many children?
Mom: 2 daughters, Elder one is in the US(me) and younger one of 22yrs age is here in Bangalore, India working as a software engineer.
Vo: Why do u want to visit US?(I think this question came up, since we clearly stated in DS-156 that "To visit my daughter and son-in-law and extend moral support to my daughter as she is expecting her first child")
MoM: She stated the same reason as in DS-156 and added that she wants to be there only for initial period of 3 months as she needs me the most then.
    Vo: How about your husband?
    Mom: he is no more
Vo: Can I see your son-in-laws papers:
Mom: Handed over the papers to him.( We had kept cover letter on top and seems like he took some time to read it that’s what my mom felt and he thoroughly glanced thru all papers, copies of our passports, H1b papers(both of our H1b papers) , bank statements, pay slips, doctor’s certificate)
VO: You have been issued visa and passport will be delivered to you in a week’s time.
    Mom: thank you sir.

We were worried about only question that may come up, why pregnancy wasn’t stated anywhere last time. So I had asked my mom to say ‘ We made a mistake by not entering in the DS-156 but if asked verbally I would have stated it “. But luckily he never asked this Q. I feel our cover letter helped as we stated all the reasons why she has to come back to India as a reason of my sister’s marriage responsibility and list of all the properties which she is the sole owner and financial responsibility towards them.

    thx for posting..

very interesting. Normally everyone in the newsgroup would suggest
not to put pregnancy as the reason for the visit..

    Congratulations and good luck
