  • Difficulty scheduling B2 visa Hindi language interview for Mumbai consulate

I'm trying to schedule B2 (tourist visa) interview for my parents through the VFS site.

My parents are based in Mumbai, and they intend to have the interview conducted in Hindi language. While looking up for the estimated visa interview dates for Mumbai consulate, I can see availability only for 'English' language. However am unable to find any interview date for Hindi (or Marathi) language. The message that appears on the site in this case is 'Interview appointments not currently available, please check back in 24 hours'.

I have been checking the availability for over 2 months now. Every time I get back the same message, whereas with interview dates when English language is selected are very much available. I have almost given up in finding interview dates for Hindi (or Marathi) for Mumbai Consulate.

I enquired on phone with one of the representatives of VFS. They said that due to arrangements required for interpreter, availability for regional languages are low. When asked if i can arrange for interview in English and have my Father (who can speak English) act as interpreter for my mother, they said this is very much possible. They said that we got to inform the consular officer and they will take care of it.

My question here though it looks that such a thing will work, should i take a chance and arrange for interview in English when only one of the interviewees can respond in this language ? Would really appreciate if someone could share their experiences with such a situation. Also is there any other alternate way i can get the interview in the desired language ?

    Regards,
    Haziq

If one member of the part is confortable with english then there is no requirement to take a regional language appointment they are hard to come by.

In your case your dad can answer the questions for your mom. but he should be truly comfortable in English

Thanks for your reply. So as i understood, i should take an appointment in English, since regional language interview dates are hard to get.

I believe my dad would be quite comfortable in handling the interview in English.

I was wondering why regional language interview are difficult to get in India, especially when there are so many people that would want their interviews conducted in languages they are comfortable speaking in. Since i have been checking for over 2 months and unable to find a regional language interview date, what will a person do, if none in the party can speak English?
