  • Few Questions for Mom's Visa Documents

    Hello,
    I am on H1-B in the U.S.A. I am sponsoring my mom on Visitor's visa. I have read through the documents that are required to send in the support. I still have some doubts/questions, if someone can help me. They are:

    1. How much money in deposits should I show on I-134 (Affidavit of Support). Should I show all the money that I have in my accounts or $20,000 will be reasonably good enough? That way, I have to send the statements of that amount and not the entire amount since my deposits are scattered throughout in CDs etc.

    2. Do I need to show money invested in stocks, retirement account, IRA or the above sum is good enough? Are there any disadvantages of showing money in IRA?

    3. Do I need to send copies of my SSN, Degree Certificate (my MS in USA), passport copy, H1-B photocopy?

    4. Do I need to send copy of my marriage certificate, since I am sending the tax return of 2006 and I filed a joint return with my wife?

    5. Do I need to send the original pay stubs or photo copies are good enough?

    Finally, I still don't have any luck in getting an appointment for her in Hindi or Gujarati. I keep checking, but nothing. If I send my documents and she doesn't get appointment for say 2 months, do I need to resend all the documents again??

    Please suggest.

    Thanks,
    Vinod Menghani

    ANS --> I assume you will also be enclosing a Consul Letter from your bank[bank a/c verification ltr], right ? If yes then your available balance should be close to the current balance, as consul ltr always reflects your current balance.

    2. Do I need to show money invested in stocks, retirement account, IRA or the above sum is good enough? Are there any disadvantages of showing money in IRA?
    ANS --> yes always recommended, don't worry the VO will not be publicising your data.

    3. Do I need to send copies of my SSN, Degree Certificate (my MS in USA), passport copy, H1-B photocopy?
    ANS --> only SSN can be left out.

    4. Do I need to send copy of my marriage certificate, since I am sending the tax return of 2006 and I filed a joint return with my wife?
    ANS --> yes

    5. Do I need to send the original pay stubs or photo copies are good enough?
    ANS --> copies

    Finally, I still don't have any luck in getting an appointment for her in Hindi or Gujarati. I keep checking, but nothing. If I send my documents and she doesn't get appointment for say 2 months, do I need to resend all the documents again??
    ANS --> yes, docs should be <= 1 month old.
