Princes and presidential staff travel under diplomatic visas.

You are allowed to take your maids and staff if you are immigrating to the US, I do not think that applies to a B-2 visa.

not all of them have diplomat status

actually immigrants are not alowed to take their servants when immigratiing,

only citizens residing abroad and making a temporary visit to US
      or
      non-immigrants

waitin_toolong, thank you for enlighting me with the information in your post. My intention was just to touch on this angle of view too, so that OP is prepared to take related questions and answer appropriately in the interview.

Thanks to all of you for your helpful advice. My father is frail and the housekeeper takes care of him, lives with him, and is like a son to him. While my father can definitely travel alone, having the housekeeper with him is a reassurance to all of us. But more importantly, I get a chance to see the housekeeper too. The housekeeper has been with our family for years now, and is like a member of the family. He helped raise me and to me, he means more than just a 'housekeeper'. I know this and he knows this too. Jeeva is not related to me by blood but he is a parent to me as far as I am concerned - he filled the gap of a mother that I did not have growing up. The only reason I even used the word 'servant' is because of how commonly it is used in India to describe domestic help. Of course I realize that it is a derogatory term....Based on the information you have all provided me with, I am considering having him apply for a B-2. In the letter to the consulate, I plan on explaining all this - that Jeeva is a 'family friend', 'more than just a housekeeper;. Having him visit me here in the US along with my father will mean the world to me. I also plan on sending round-trip air tickets to both my father and him. Any advice you have will be much appreciated. I am truly grateful to all of you.

            Not a housekeeper

Consider another option. In case of plan B, this person is not a housekeeper, but an assistant for your father due to his medical condition.

You may though need a doctor's note.

            Take care.
