  • Can I-134 Notarized by a Indian Notary?

    Hi Everyone,

I am planning to apply for visitor visa for my mother-in - law. As u guys know, I-134 needs to be completed and notarized.
I am currently in India on vacation. So I cannot get the form I-134 notarized by a US notary.
My question is can the form I-134 be notarized by a licensed Indian notary? Is there any immigration rule that explicity requires the I-134 to be signed and notarized by a US notarty?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Al.

It's right there on the first page of the form

Excerpt from the I-134 form - the very first page.

If you are in the United States, the affidavit may besworn to or affirmed before an officer of U.S. Citizenshipand Immigration Services (USCIS) without the payment offee, or before a notary public or other officers authorizedto administer oaths for general purposes, in which case theofficial seal or certificate of authority to administer oathsmust be affixed.

    If you are
outside the United States, the affidavitmust be sworn to or notice affirmed before a U.S.consular or immigration officer.

How you submit the form depends on whether the alien youare sponsoring is in or outside the United States and what typeof application is being submitted. See the instructionsprovided with the corresponding application for detailedinformation on how to submit this affidavit of support form.

        Walk in, but ...

You can walk in for the notary service, but as the consulates work differently at times due to availability of personnel, it's best to call up in advance and the go so you don't waste your trip.

Take appropriate documents to show proof of identity.

One thing I don't know is what they charge you, if any. Long time back this service was free of cost, I'm not aware of current scenario.

Please do share your experiences with everybody by posting on this forum.

        Good luck.
