Question about my visa

Dear Sir/Madam

1-Is it possible for someone with B-2 visa in the US to get social security number or not ????

2-Is it possible for someone with B-2 visa in the US to work as a volunteer ( without salary) for example in a research center or as a clerkship for 2-3 months or not ???
