Length of visit

My father has his own business in India - he intends to visit me only for 1 month . Now, if I state the length of visit as one month in DS 156 - would they give him visitor visa for this short period only? We want visitor visa period to be long enough so that he can visit say for a month anytime during next six months.

(We do not intend to write length of visit as 6 months since if we do that the counsel personnel may ask who will handle his business for 6 months in his absence.)

One month you tell and one or more months you get

If your father has his own business, then it makes more than normal sense to request a visa for one month only. That will automatically answer their question on how is he willing to leave his business for some time to visit USA.

Now the minimal visa they will grant to you would be automatically (in most cases) for six months. Which means he can visit you (for a month) anytime within that six month period.

In many cases, especially when you show your own good business and sufficient funds, they grant a 10 year visa, like I've known in many recent cases.

The actual length of stay in the United States will depend upon the I-94 stamped at the point of entry [POE].
