I need your suggestion/help regarding my case.
MY spouse is on H1B and received his EAD in August 2007 and we are planning to invite my in-laws for a vist to USA. There was an INS issue with my father-in-law's (FIL) stay and work while he was in USA during 1975 - 1977. I have described the issue in detail below:
My FIL came to USA during Sep 1974 on F1 VISA to Washington State University (WSU), Pullman. After completing a semister in WSU, he joined University of Bridgeport CT in Sep 1975. He completed his MASTERS (MS) from Bridgeport University, CT in 1977.
He LEGALLY worked with XYZ company in Bridgeport for about 5 months as part of his student sub-contract program with university of bridgeport for which he has a referance letter from XYZ and his tax filing documents.
For sometime in Summer vacation, He had worked in a Boutique store (received payment in cash as it was not legal) at Bridgeport (The shop run by South Asian). The INS was informed for the same and he was called at INS office at Hartford and they took his passport and may be fingerprint also.
At that time, probably he had one semester to go which he completed and took back his passport and left NY in April 1977.
After that he did not try for US entry again. When his passport was in INS possession, they had noted following number on his passport - "A21 035 163 HAR".
Since then my FIL has been working in INDIA and took his retirement in August 2007.
Now as we are planning to invite them (Visitor Visa) I would like to get your suggestion on how to handle his case.
Q1) what does this referance number mean -"A21 035 163 HAR" ?
Q2) Any recommendation on the application procedure on his Visitor VISA?
Q3) Is it required to carry the old passport, SSN etc during VISA interview?
Q4) If the Visa officer asks (which I think he might) about the referance number noted on his old passport, what should be the overall reply.
Please help!!!
Regards,
Seema.
