B visa for Holiday Home

My wife and i are considering buying a holiday home in the US. We are UK citizens, so we know we qualify for the 3 month visa waver program. I'm concerned as to weather we should be applying for a B2 visa so that we aren't abusing the system too much. We intend on spending around 3 months in the summer and 3 month in the winter. As yet we have not purchased a house in the states as we wanted to be sure which route to go down. Can anyone advise on whether the visa waver would suffice or whether the B2 is more appropriate.
