  • opening a bank account on a visitor's visa.

Hi, I am currently in California with a b1/b2 tourist visa and I have a debit card from the Philippines which is making a lot of problems for me, sometimes it works and most of the times it doesnt. Can i open a bank account with a tourist visa here in america because I need a visa/mastercard debit card. thanks for your help.

    Don't think so

I don't think any of the United States banks will allow you to open a local account. If they do, you may need the permission from your national bank/government body that manages foreign financial transactions.

In addition, you may be subject to almost 40% withholding.

What you should do is approach different banks and speak to their branch managers - try national banks like Bank of America and also a very local bank too.

    Good luck.
