You came to the USA in order to visit. Not to get a green card and work, abide by the rules of your visa. Why did you lie to the consular officer saying you wanted to "visit" the USA for "tourism"?

Here are the paths to a GC: http://www.immihelp.com/greencard/index.html

You are not going to get one by just having a B2 visa.

      Praetorian,
Status changes are pretty common. Situations in life change ever so often. He really might have intended just to visit when he got the visitor visa. Now, his situations might be different. He has every right to follow his dreams and change his mind(free will). As long as he follows legal means to apply for work visa, I don't think there is anything wrong with it and I don't see why you are bashing him unnecessarily.

      TG4EvA,
Yes. It is definitely possible to do that as long as you follow legal procedures to obtain a valid work visa. Please check with your lawyer for more details.

Bcoz of person like you TG4EvA, consulate have introduced 214(b) and Rejecting visas.

Results is that many Parents who just want to visit their son/daughter are suspected for potential immigrant.

So paccha9999 dont encourage such things

I agree that "plans can change". I am not saying he can't follow his dreams. All I am saying is do so in the "right" way, by filing for a H1 visa from his home country, not COS from a visa that was meant for "short tourism visit".

People lying at Consular Officers and hiding their true reasons to come to the USA affect us, and our families, when it is time for them to come here on a visa, may be denied because of people who have abused the system.

paccha9999 & TG4EvA: because of ppl like you, so many deserving applicants for a B1 visa are being turned down. I dont want to write any more because that will only lead to this thread being deleted.

But TG4EvA, why dont you get back to your home country and try one of the ways to get a GC. Because even if you successfully get your status changed, the day you go for stamping of the visa, you'll run the risk of being turned down, and that risk will always be there unless you live in US (and never get out of US) until you get your green card
Looks like paccha9999 is in the same boat

You have to give tg4eva some credit because he wants to stay in the US LEGALLY.

                  please help..

hey, im 21, i grew up in san francisco california; pretty much started my life here. ive traveled across the united states, i have worked and i have graduated high school. my issue is, i can't get an ID, Drivers License, or even go to college. so my situation..

I arrived here in the states in 1995 on a B-2 Visa, me and my mother. my father had left two years earlier to get everything ready for us. well as you can see im still in the United States. I also have a son that was born here in the United States in 2007; now i know in 2009 they started the 'Anchor Baby' law. (im thinking) but my son is diagnosed with Autism and to top that off, i can't work in the states unless its under the table.. but i have to take care of my son..

please someone let me know what i can do, i can't drive, i want to be a vet, my son is counting on me and i dont know how many more under the table jobs i can deal with..

From what I understand, you have been living illegally in US for 16-17 years.
I think the only way you can attain a legal status is by getting married to a US citizen and
your spouse filing to get you a green card.
Are you married? What is your nationality? What is the visa status of your mom ?
