Return date confusion

I know the maximum time you can spend in USA is 6 months but when i try to work out when i should book my return flight i get a bit mixed up.

Does the 6 months include the full 6th month or do you have to go home at the start of the 6th month?

Example if i was entering usa on 25th of april what would the date be for the last day i can stay in USA?

Calculate 6 months from the date of entry into USA(POE) It depends on the IO at POE how many months' stay he gives. Normally it is 6 months.

Buffer

Keep a buffer of a few days, just in case.

If this is the first visit, don't wait for the entire period, try to leave quite a bit early and do not file for an extension.
