  • Visitor Visa for my mother

    hi

    I have come to USA (NYC) with my husband in December 2007 on L1/L2 visa. I want my mother (Alone as Father passed away recently) to come visit me here for few months. She is slated to visit my sister in singapore during April. Could you please clarify If there is a possibility to get a US visitor visa for my mother from Singapore itself? If yes, can you please guide me on this?

    My mother is getting her Pension on monthly basis. Also, she has property in India on her name. Does she need to carry these documents with her - would that be enough along with the sponsorship letter from my Husband?

    FYI: I am not working now but will be starting work in few months. Would that be an advantage in getting Visa for her.

    Kindly advise.

    Thanks & Regards

    Please note;
    1. It is hard for widows to get visitor visas if they cannot show strong financial and occupational ties to home country. If she does not have any children living with her in India , it will be very difficult.
    2. Applying in singapore is not advised. They will deny and tell her to apply in India. US Embassy prefers one to apply at home country where the embassy staff is familiar with local situation. Only in real urgency, one should apply abroad.
    3. She should not apply so soon; you have only been in US 3 months.
    They will ask why your mother wants to visit you now as you have been separated from her only 3 months. It is a sign of desperation to go to US.

    ADVICE;
    1.Wait at least one year . Apply Dec 08.
    2.She should show some occupation in India that will compel her to return.
    A small business/ vocational school/ sewing school/music school are a few examples.
    3. Show some income from such an occupation/ have it registered/
    show some employees ( 2-3).

      Visitor's visa for my mother

      Hi

      Thank you for a prompt reply...

      Would it be of any help if I were to go via a lawyer to get the documents done for my mother and apply for her visa in June sometime?

        NO. You will be wasting money. They do not look at any documents for pleasure visits.
        They will decide on the basis of answers to their questions.
