B2 visa pending for further processing?

I appeared for B2 visitor visa today at Delhi consulate. Visa officer returned me my passport & a letter saying that i'have to wait as it requires further processing. Does anyone knows what kind of further processing it could be & how long it might take for that? For some insight into my case. I'm a permanent resident of Australia & i'm going back to Australia after visiting a realtive of mine in US.

Well, what exactly happens in the additional time they ask for is unclear. All I know is that you were not rejected (and thats a good thing I think) and you have chances to get the visa.

How long it'll take ?

If anybody can give me any idea how long this process could take normally ?
