  • Parents got visa in Kolkata

My mother is a professor in a college and my father is retired. They are both above 55 years of age. My sister and I are in US. I am on H1B and my sister is on F1. We are both married. I sponsored them.

    Interview:

VO: Good Morning! How are you?
Parents: Good Morning! We are fine? How are you?

VO to mom: Which college do you teach at? What subject do you teach?
    Mom: ZZZ

VO: How many children do you have?
Mom: Two and both are in US. (I had asked them to mention voluntarily that me and my sister are both of in US and I had mentioned in my invitation letter too that “ I would like to invite you both to visit me and sister”)
    VO: Wow!

VO to father: Where did you work before you retired?
Dad: In YYYY as YYYY manager.

VO: Where would you stay in US?
Dad: At my elder daughter’s residence.

VO: Wouldn’t you stay at your younger daughter’s place?
Dad: Yes we are going to visit her. She will also come and stay at my elder daughter’s place. We would visit different places together. (We kind of anticipated this question because in the letter to consulate I had mentioned that they will stay with me, whereas the invitation letter mentioned that they will visit both me and my sister but I did not see a better way of making it clear that both my sister and I am here is US)

VO: How long do you plan to stay?
    Dad: Three months.

VO: Would you like to collect you passport from the VFS office or would you like it couriered?
    Dad: Couriered please.

VO: Thank you! Have a great day!
Mom and Dad: Thank you. You have a good day too.

    Papers they submitted:

I had asked them to submit in three sets:
Set 1: First Applicant’s paper (Dad) : Interview letter, passport, copy of passport, HDFC receipt, DS- 156 (since my parents are above 55 years), Affidavit containing a summary of assets and declaring that the intent of their tour would be to visit us and tourism only and they do not intend to work here.
Set 2: First Applicant’s paper (Mom): Interview letter, passport, copy of passport, HDFC receipt, DS- 156 (since my parents are above 55 years), Affidavit containing a summary of assets and declaring that the intent of their tour would be to visit us and tourism only and they do not intend to work here, No objection Certificate from her college also stating that she will be eligible for 3 months leave if she wants to visit us. We did not specify travel dates

Set 3: Sponsor’s documents as per immihelp’s check list. I showed around $12,000 in my bank account.

Thanks for all your assitance Immihelp!

Congratulations, enjoy their visit and make sure they do stay 3 months or less for the first visit.
