You can renew your passport while here in the USA. Contact your embassy.

      If you don't have ...

... immediate plans to travel, it'll be best if you get your new passport in the US. It'll be quicker and less painful. Remember, you're not "renewing" your current passport, they'll give you a new one valid for it's life.

Also, you don't have to switch your current visa to the new passport, just keep both the documents with you when you travel.

When your current visa expires and you get a new one, at that time you can get that one on your new passport.

      Good luck.

          Not if ...

... you're not applying for a new visa. If you're just traveling on the current visa then there's no regular restrictions.

When you re-enter United States be prepared to inform the officer (if asked) that you're going to have your passport "renewed" promptly.

If you've got time, then you should get your new passport now, that'll just make it easy for you.

          Good luck.
