  • Sponsoring myselft but staying at some friend's apartment in the U.S

    I met these friends when they were visiting my country for religious reasons. I will apply for a visitor/tourist visa, I am paying the airplane tickets and everything. I am going to stay at their apartment, they are very nice and are able to let me stay with them for two weeks. Honestly, I'm just visiting, I do not want to stay. I have two jobs here.., good paid, divorced, don't have saving accounts,etc.

    My questions are:

    On the form DS-156, item # 24 At what address will you stay in the U.S? I will put theirs. would the agent be suspicious, thinking that if I am paying everything. why wouldn't I be able to pay a hotel for the two weeks instead of staying with these friends?

    By the way, my friends are a 60 years old married couple..

    the same with item # 25. their names, telephone number, etc. isn't this tricky?

    I'd appreciate your comments.

    If the purpose is plain tourism, I suggest you do not mention those friends of yours.
    Officers think people use casual acquaintances to settle in US.
    And your divorced status is a big negative factor. If you apply in current circumstances, you will be denied.
    (If you will tell them you are going for tourism they will ask you have you ever been to any other foreign country before, why USA of all the nations.)

    ADVICE;
    Travel to smaller countries first; singapore, thailand, europe etc.
    Then apply for a visit visa to US with a package tour, showing good income in India, a job letter from your employer showing permanent employment.

      ok.. Good point...

      So. I should try to find a hotel and put it on the form... or just leave it blank ???... if they ask I will tell them I will be booking on a hotel.. ( near my friends apartment)

      Do I have to tell them.. I am divorced.... ? I want to be honest with them... would they have a way to find out about my real status?

      BTW, I have visited one near country a couple of times.

      thanks again....

        Be honest with them. You will have to write your marital status on the form.If you lie and say you are married, they will ask about your wife in detail and your lie may be caught. They are very smart , they can get the truth out by indirect questioninng. If caught, you will be denied and will face problems always.

        Better get a package tour.
        Must show employment cum leave letter showing very good salary, permanent job.
        They will ask you how long you wish to go for;
        Never say more than 2 months. Show them the itinerary of the tour.
