If my parents self sponsor their visit(visiting me for 3 months)
1) How much is the approximate bank balance in Indian rupees they should have in their account? Please give me a rough idea. And does it matter if the money is shown as fixed deposit or it is necessary for all the money to be shown in saving account.
2)What documents do i need to send my parents if they are self sponsoring their visit?
3)Is it right that self sponsoring is better than me sponsoring them as my parents are retired?

Self sponsoring is always better provided the family has very good income.
Rs 1 lac/ month and above is safe.
For retired people drawing mediocre pensions, self sponsoring MAY bring a denial even if they can show strong deposits. Most officers give more value to INCOME than deposits.

... too much. Many a time they won't even look at the numbers you provide.

You should attempt the best possible option. In this case, it appears that it's best if you don't sponsor them but they themselves submit their finances, properties, investments, balances etc. and apply for a visa.

There is no sure fire way to tell what may or may not work. People with $2000 of savings have sponsored their parents and got the visas, while some with $35K haven't!

Hope you get the picture. If you still have serious doubts you can also consult an attorney and see what advice you get.

Just be meticulous in your paperwork, don't make spelling or silly mistakes and do a neat and good job.

Are you working? You need to show annual income of $ 40k+ to safely
sponsor your folks. $7k won't do anything.

Please provide some ideas of your parents' net worth ;rough amount of deposits, insurance policies, shares, bonds, savings, property value.

Also, total family income from all sources(annual).

My annual income is $45K but currently I have only 7k as my bank balance, so I am not sure whether this little bank balance is enough for sponsoring my parents, any suggestions

Rather than looking at any raw numbers, ask this question to yourself "Would you truly be able to take care of their expenses for their visit to USA"? with the income and savings you have. And go accordingly.
