Do self sponsors require invitation letter?

My uncle and Aunt are going for Visitor visa interview. They are self sponsors.

• Do I need to send invitation letter to them even though they are self sponsors?
• Do I need to send letter to the Visa officer even though they are self sponsors?

They will have to show an invitation letter from you if they mention that they will be staying with you. If they do not mention you, they will have to show hotel bookings, itinerary to where all they will be staying in US.

That is correct. It will be a lot easier for them if they have an invitation letter, both for the consulate and the port of entry officers. Is there a reason why you would not want to provide them with one?
