  • Graduation next year; Father retiring soon

    Hello forum,

I'm a student in US and would like my parents to have visitor's visa. I've gone through the posts in this forum and got few answers. I have few queries though...

    Very briefly,

    1. My graduation ceremony would be only next year sometime (May/December 2009). So I wanted my parents to come only next year.

    2. My father is retiring this August (mother not working). I was told that it is better to have the visas in hand for my parents, especially when my father is in service.

    Q's:

    1. Is it advisable for them to apply for B2 visa now or next year?

    2. If there's no harm applying this year, they'll probably tell VO that they want to spend time with me. In that case, they should sponsor themselves I guess. Do I still have to fill up I-134 form in this regard?

    3. Any financial documents from my side?

    3. The documents that are needed from my side now (or in near future) are as follows:

    a. Photocopies of passport, visa and I-20.
    b. Letter of good standing from department.
    c. Invitation letter to my parents.
    d. I-134 notary (maybe?)

Please let me know if I'm missing anything. Any advice appreciated.

    Many thanks!

I assume you know that ...

... your school will give you a letter for your parent's visas next year when you're graduating. That letter will help your parents obtain the visa.

I'm sorry but I don't want to comment on when they should apply for the visa, except to say that it should be next year when they actually have the intent and the plans to come.

      Take care.

        many thanks for the reply.

I had second thoughts because my father will be retiring soon. How crucial is it?

        Thanks!

          Retirement shouldn't matter ...

... it may probably help as he can explain that now he's retired he has the time to move around.

As long as you show financial strength, strong home country ties, you're good.

My suggestion is to always go with the truth than not. It shows that confidence on the face and causes lesser problems in future.

          Take care.

            Thanks for the reply again!

So my decision is that I'll tell my parents to apply for visa only next year and not to go for it this year. They can give visa only for an year sometimes. What if I do not graduate by then....a wasted visa I guess.

            Cheers!
