I am planning to invite my parents this summer, i am not working currently so my husband will be sposoring their trip.
I am really confused whether it is better for my parents to self sponsor their trip or my husband should do it.
My parents are retired employees with joint monthly pension of around 20,000 Rs, a bank balance of around 10 lac Rs (mostly as fixed deposits), and they own their house and vehicle(car)
My husband is here since 2005 on a J1 visa, has stable monthly income, his bank balance is only 10K, annual income is 47k. I am not working yet but will start working from ending June this year.
Kindly give your advise as who should be the sponsor, my husband or my parents, based on above information.
I will be extremely grateful for your suggestions, thanks

That a sponsor is required for a visitor visa is a myth. However, your husband can still send I-134 and Bank statements, pay stubs, employer letter etc. The VO seldom asks for these things. Your parents will have to prove that they will return by showing ties to home country on their own.

I know that sponsoring in not mandatory, but that still did not answer my specific question.

Its always better that somone earning in US sponsors the visitors. Your parents are retired, the property/bank balance you are showing is insignificant compared to living expenses in US. I mean to say tht if they use their savings for ticket and everyday expenses in US, it'll deplete very fast. And if they are ready to spend their lifetime savings for one trip to US, then thats where VO's suspicion arises, as to wht the real intention is. Being retired hurts the case further. So I think someone earning in US should sponsor.

Sponsoring is not mandatory, and I was aware of this fact when my parents attended the interview (I sponsored them), incidentally he did not ask anything, no documents demanded, but from the whole bunch of documents, he pulled out the I-134 himself. Just a personal experience. And if you do aponsor, remember that you'll have to bear all their expenses including medical. If they get visa, dont forget medical insurance. All the best.

Thanks Orion, for your detailed reply

Actually in my parents case, I also feel that my husband should be the sponsor since I dont work and my parents are retired. My husband is willing to bear all the expenses whatsoever, our only concern is that whether our income and bankbalance is sufficient to sponsor or it is too less. Another concern is that we dont have any property in US(no house of our own, we live in a rented town house), although we have a stable income as I have mentioned in detail above. With this scenario in mind do you still feel that my husband being the sponsor is still the best option. Thanks again for your reply
