Not for both parents. If one of the parents was deceased and had no more children but you, then maybe, But it is a long stretch.

Example: John has an H1B visa, he can bring his wife as a dependent (H4). John's dad passed away 2 years ago, and he is an only child. His mom, could obtain a dependent visa (H4) based on John's H1. Since she is a widow, and has nobody else to take care of her.

I've never heard of it and thought it was not possible as parents are never dependents as per US immigration laws. I still think it is not possible to obtain a H4 under these circumstances that you mentioned. I could be wrong.

I am interested in knowing more about this subject and the possibility of such a thing for my own knowledge. Could you point me to an official source, if you can, please?

No. Do this yourself, on your own.

                          Hi PraetorianXI,
I had talked to a few immigration lawyers about this. The general answer is that Parents do not qualify as dependents. Are you sure about this? Do you know anybody who was successful with this approach? Can you provide more information on this please?

                          Thanks,

I've done my research on this subject since my last posting and concluded that it is not possible to sponsor parents as dependents.

Unless something is available in the law (I looked and could not find anything) or a memo, I would say it is not possible.
