Is Last name mandatory in passport?

Hi All,

I need help in knowing that is last name of a person mandatory in the passport to apply for a visitor visa?
My Mom's passport doesn't have a last name and my dad does.How can this be taken care?

Appreciate a reply ASAP.

Not mandatory. If there is nothing listed under last name, they make the given name as last name and put FNU under first name. This is clearly mentioned by VFS instructions.

Mom's name not same in my passport as on her

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help.I have another question, my mom's name is different in her passport and in my passport. Her name in my passport for instance is cdef ghij (first name and last name), but in her passport is ab cdef(only first name, there is no last name). Will this be a problem for visa?
