  • How important is NOC and leave sanction letter for applicants in Government service?

I'm in the process of applying for B1 visa for my parents-in-law both of which are in government service. My father-in-law seems to be having some trouble in getting a NOC from his department. According to him, it might take over a month to get the same, even if he tried.

    1. I wanted to know how important it is to have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or Letter and leave sanction letter during a Tourist Visa (B2) interview. Are these mandatory documents for the interview?

    2. Have there been any instance when this were asked during an interview and the Visa got rejected since this letter was not produced ?

    3. Alternatively, can one produce original appointment letter and/or identity cards in lieu of the NOC and Leave sanction letters.

Yes, it is very important for govt servants.
He will be wasting an attempt if he applied without it.
I suggest both postpone their visit till he gets it or mom can apply to travel alone.

Do they have other children in India? Because if they do not, mom applying and traveling alone may have a better chance at the visa.

      Thanks for the reply.

Yes, they have 2 other children (a son and daughter) in India, and both of them are unmarried. I think this might help them apply together. However, I agree with your suggestion to make them apply separately, since it is going take some time for my father-in-law to get the NOC.

If mom applies alone, they will always ask ; why isn't dad going.
She must have a good answer. Do not say he cannot get his NOC ; just say he cannot get leave.

My brother has similar problem. When he applied for 'No objection letter for obtaining Indian passport as an employee of AP State government, his authorities have issued him a letter saying that he can obtain passport and they don't have any objections. At the same time in the letter they also mentioned that my brother has to get another NOC before leaving the contry by submitting 1) Copy of passport 2) Copy of Visa Approval 3) Air Ticket 4) Sponsorship documents 5) Leave sancation letter.

From the above details what I understand it that my brohter cannot get another NOC unless he submits the visa copy.

            Any suggestions on it?

I suggested my brother to show the same document and explain the same to VO if he asks for NOC. However my brother has no issues in obtaining the Leave approval letter

Any suggestions / thoughts / comments on this
